The Dreamy Santorini

On my birthday 3 years ago, my brother sent me a postcard from Santorini which said: “it’s really fun studying abroad, you get the chance to get out there and see how interesting this world is.” I have always wanted to live abroad ever since and have a chance to travel to Santorini, an island of beautiful white and blue tone. To me or to any other girl, Santorini is not just a destination; it’s a romantic dream, the dream of youth.
And then, I met my dream on the days prior to my 23rd birthday. Located about 1 hour flight from Athens, or 7-8 hours by train, Santorini is the most visited islands in Greece. Between May and October is said to be the most ideal time to visit this place, where July and August are the peak season.
We traveled to Santorini on the early days of May when it was still quite cold but we got to experience the island’s true beauty and peace without being packed and surrounded by thousands of other tourists. We booked a room in a pretty little hotel located in Fira village, central Santorini. The hotel is just by the bus stop so it was really convenient to travel to Oia and Imerovigli village which helped to reduce the cost of our trip too.
Santorini is famous for its distinctive blue roofs that create a unique feature of this island in the memories of many visitors. Among dozens of blue rooftops, you cannot miss out the famous Three Blue Domes in Santorini that we normally see on every Santorini postcard

A delicious hot wrap is an ideal lunch dish with enough energy and a good balance of starch, meat and vegetables. Besides, one thing for sure, you are not visiting Greece without trying the yogurt. We visited a self serve yogurt shop in the central of Fira on a rainy afternoon. Sharing scoops of yogurt with different toppings was a pleasant experience for us in the slightly cold weather

The locals of this island are friendly and funny, like this guy we met in drink shop after wandering around on the stone paved roads of Fira

Later on we arrived Oia village after a 30 minute bus journey from the central of Fira and it did not disappoint. The whole scene got really likely and vibrant with the blue-white houses added with orange tones.
It’s a great chance for you to capture hundreds of incredible photos here. The poetic and vibrant landscape of Oia is the combination of the domes and flat roofs, with one-color rough painted walls with huge windmills from the distance

The beauty of Santorini didn’t stop there yet, you really should also slow down and enjoy the sunset in Oia which is perhaps one of the most unforgettable moments for anyone who has ever been to this place.
I am not sure if Santorini is the best place in the world to watch the sunset, but it is for sure an amazing one. It was totally worth it especially when we had to come quite early to get a good position and until the sunset was over and the sun disappeared in the applause of other tourists, I realized this would definitely be a beautiful memory that I can never forget.

And I must say, I am happy and grateful that this dream named Santorini finally came true, where I finally could wear my favourite dress and hold my friends’ hands walking through the endless beauty of the island in the most beautiful days of my youth. Thank you Santorini, you have shown and inspired me to appreciate my youth, my journeys and myself.
